Why is it called Salt Water Taffy?
Our most frequent question. It actually started in Atlantic City, New Jersey (we in Ocean City just made it better) with a man named Bradley. He had a taffy stand on the boardwalk back in the 1890s and one night the ocean decided to pay his taffy stand a little visit. We don’t know how much damage was done, but it was enough to put Mr. Bradley in a bad mood the next morning. So when a little girl asked for some taffy, he sarcastically called it “salt water taffy”. Luckily for Mr. Bradley, some female relations overheard his remark and recognized a catchy phrase when they heard one. Soon thereafter Mr. Bradley’s taffy became “Salt Water Taffy”, and that is how it all began.
Is there salt water in salt water taffy?
No, there is no salt in our taffy (except for maybe a pinch in our peanut butter flavor). In fact, there is hardly any water.
How was taffy made before machines?
Before machines there was manpower. That’s right. To pull the taffy one would use a large hook. The hooks would hold the taffy while the “puller” would stretch, twist and pull the taffy to the right consistency. Then, each piece would be cut to fit the paper and wrapped… all by hand. Today, the machines used can pull in excess of 100 pounds and wrap approx 300-400 pieces per minute!
Can you freeze Salt Water Taffy?
Yes, you can. You can also freeze our mint rolls, fudge, and macaroons. Simply put the box in the freezer, and when you want a treat let the candy stand at room temperature for a while. It’s an excellent way to enjoy summer all winter long!
How many pieces of Taffy are in a pound?
There are approximately 42-44 pieces of Salt Water Taffy per pound. That’s nearly 220 pieces in a five pound box!
What is the size of Salt Water Taffy?
Our Salt Water Taffy is about 3¼ inches long when wrapped, and approximately 2½ inches long unwrapped.
My Taffy Melted! What happened?
Pop it in the refrigerator for about one hour and see what happens. Taffy can be adversely affected by warmth, but a little chill should put it back into place.
My Taffy Froze! What happened?
In extremely low temperatures, our product may be too cold to consume when it arrives. Please allow the candy to come to room temperature again before eating and enjoying. Taffy is very sensitive to the colder weather and will react to the freezing temps. Taffy, however, will return to a delicious state once it’s in 72 – 74 plus temperatures after 24 hours. If you can’t wait, please hold a piece of taffy in your hand for five minutes and wait until it warms up. Enjoy!
How many Mint Rolls are in a pound?
There are approximately 50 Mint Rolls per pound.

Mint Rolls come in different flavors: White, chocolate, butter (pink, green, yellow) Each Mint Roll is 1¼ inch long X ½ inch wide X ½ inch tall. It is 1 ½ inches long with the wrapper.
